INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Get to the ATM on Monday and Tuesday. No one hit the pick six at Hollywood Park on Sunday, so when racing resumes on Wednesday, there will be a carryover of $137,599 already in the kitty.
Most of the pick six races on Wednesday have small to moderate fields. One race has six entrants, two have seven, one has eight, one has nine, and one has 10. The pick six encompasses the final six races, numbers three through eight.
Following is a quick overview of the pick six sequence:
Third race -- One of the more difficult races in the pick six. Smoke Till Dawn is taking a sharp drop in class and is back with his friends. I Love Racing was claimed last time out by improvement trainer John Martin. Amasoldier won off a long layoff here last year; this is a similar scenario. Award Winning Team should be dangerous on the drop.
Fourth race -- A two-horse race between Susie's Joe, who makes her first start since being claimed by Bill Spawr, and Fatal Caper, whose late run was compromised behind a slow pace last time out.
Fifth race -- Chinkapin is coming right back for $25,000 after winning at this level in his comeback. Arbiter, Martinblestme, Court Shenanigans, and Four Checker were separated by less than one length in a similar race Nov. 20.
Sixth race -- Gee's Bend returns to her best game, sprinting. Oma Rosa is trained by Mike Harrington, who is deadly with first-timers in these maiden-claiming races. Miss Bobbie Quick drops into a maiden-claimer for the first time. Sweet Currency was second against similar, but the time was painfully slow. Seventh race -- Trainer John Sadler has two top contenders with Etch, who has never finished out of the money in four starts, and comebacking Bronze Route, a winner of her lone previous start. Desert Gal nosed out Etch in a similar sprint at Santa Anita's Oak Tree meeting in October. Eighth race -- Slew's House makes his first start for the always dangerous Julio Canani. Viento Fuerte has sneaky good works for Sadler. Oro de Ole is up in class, but exits a wickedly fast race for the level. That's Right dips into a Cal-bred race after a decent try against open company in his debut.
